Q. What would be my responsibilities?
A. Simply to pick up the collected batteries once the collection box is full and transport them to your local Household Waste Recycling Centre.
Q. How often would the boxes fill up?
A. On average they would fill every six to eight weeks, but this may vary depending on your area.
Q. Will I have to do any complicated paperwork?
A. No. CoBRA have devised a revolutionary pre-filled, downloadable consignment note form for you, so all you need do is sign and date the forms on each visit... simple!
Q. What happens if I go on holiday?
A. For a normal one, or two week holiday, that should be fine. We suggest you check the location just before you leave and again when you return. If you think you’ll be away for longer, just let us know and we’ll help you find a suitable solution for your location.
Q. Will I get paid for transporting batteries?
A. No. If you were being paid, your actions would require a ‘Waste Carrier’s license’, so you will be acting purely as a volunteer on behalf of your community.
Q. Could I do this in conjunction with someone else?
A. Absolutely. You would both need to go through the ‘Sign-Up’ procedure and then use the same location as your collection point. (N.B. It is illegal to transport batteries on behalf of your community without first being a registered user of the CoBRA Scheme or holding a Waste Carrier’s License.)
Q. What if I decide I don’t want to continue or can’t do it anymore?
A. In that event we would ask that you find someone in your locale to take over the location for you. If you cannot find someone yourself, we would do all we could to find someone for you so as not to lose this valuable community asset.
Q. I have another question that isn’t on this list, who should I contact?
A. You can either ring your Council’s Waste team, or email us under:
info@CobraScheme.co.uk.. We will do all we can to answer it for you.
Q. How can I stay in contact with other volunteers?
